I photographed this image at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA, on a quiet spring morning. It got its title because in Celtic mythology, The Ninth Wave represents the border between the known and unknown worlds, a barrier that separates the real world from “the other world”. To go "beyond the ninth wave" was to go on a journey of discovery and mystery, and I’ve always felt that there is something otherworldly about this image – the soft colors, the fading horizon, the stillness, that single wave… it kind of feels like a dream to me.
